Cooking by the book

One of Zachary's (and now Owen's) favorite book series is the Frances the Badger series. Meh even scored points with the boys by discovering the audio book rendition of a few stories from the series, delivered fabulously by the actress who played the suffragette mother Mrs. Banks in the Mary Poppins film. Now almost every time we get in the car, Zachary happily asks for "Frances stories!"

So clearly the book and CD gets a lot of mileage, and we've always thought the description of the "chompo bar" Frances gets her sister for her birthday sounded pretty darn yummy. Earlier this week, Meh decided to actually make it - and the results were indeed extra tasty. For those keeping score at home, it's nougat (I'm a particular fan of the UK pronunciation "noo-gah") covered in caramel covered in chocolate covered in nuts - like some kind of nutty Milky Way. And of course Meh made it all from scratch. Zachary still hasn't ventured a bite, though Owen is a huge fan. Hooray for the amazing concoctions of Meh, and thanks to author Russell Hoban for inventing the concept!
