Faux-reos
Not that there's ever really a need to schedule an event as an excuse, but Meh has been baking up a storm for today's holiday cookie exchange. I think she ended up with like seven options, and friends brought many of their own as well. It was a fabulous time, and everyone enjoyed both the treats and playing with Zachary. For his end, Zachary had a great time, particularly of course with friend J. Eventually there were some nice polite requests from the little man for Thomas, so we had to put on everyone's favorite televised, semi-animated tank engine. Incidentally, we proved that it's not just Meh and myself; as the show came on, the adults sitting on the couch were all inexplicably transfixed too -- it's clearly hypnotic for grownups.
One of the many hit cookies of the party were these "faux-reos" Meh made (someone later suggested we instead call them "moreos"), giant oreo-type homemade cookies with fresh cookie cream in the middle. Tastiness. There were also a wide variety of other cookies prominently featuring caramel, chocolate, nuts, various butter/sugar/flour combinations, and even a pumpkin one that Zachary actually sampled. (Yes, he was the only one at a cookie party who found apple slices to be the most attractive item from the presented options.)
It's also the first full day of Chanukah, which means lots of dreidls and other fun decorations have been tastefully placed throughout the house by Meh. Zachary has a favorite dreidl that plays "I Have a Little Dreidl" when it spins fast enough, and he loves watching/making mommy or daddy spin it. If it stops, he'll smile and look expectantly at it and/or us, saying "sha!" ('spin!' I guess?) until the top is back up and playing its music again. His favorite present thus far (not counting a few early gifts he got from mima and papa when they visited for Thanksgiving) appears to be a superball direct from London, courtesy of Uncle B:
