As hinted at earlier, the
nasty heat wave hitting the West Coast is due to reach Seattle for the next three days, with National Weather Service warnings of temps in the
90s to 100s. Luckily, we have a portable room air conditioner. Unluckily, we've only got one. More incentive to stay in air conditioned offices or go watch movies, though thankfully the downstairs has stayed pretty cool so far. Still have to finish touching up the paint on the soon-to-be baby room, but it's just too darn hot in there in the afternoons and evenings. Getting some shades in there will definitely help; we're hoping to do that in the next day or two.
Our back deck has gotten excellent use; the shade and breezes really help beat the heat, and it's a good place to rest, lay low, and read a good book. Or in my case, a giant
990-page tome that I've been reading for several months (and likely through a few too many library renewals).

Even Korby eventually (or at least intermittently) gets tired of eating grass and dirt, and chills out in the shade, though he's quite skilled at intentionally waiting to sit or lie down until he sees us trying to call him inside. Yup, the eldest child is already acting up...
Here's a pic of one of his favorite places to hang out (from a few weeks ago, before the grass started its inevitable transformation to hay).
We're now down to under 20 days, yikes!
