T-Minus how long now?

One of the more unique gifts we've gotten is a pregnancy countdown timer. Well, it's actually an arbitrary countdown timer (with an affirmation to 'make every minute count'), and you can plug in the date you want it to count down to and watch it spin. Here's how it looked at the time of this posting:

Not visible off the right edge of the picture is the millisecond counter - they scroll by too fast to make much sense of anyway. Yup, milliseconds. Is that a little more dramatic than strictly necessary, or is it just me? Also makes it feel like we're preparing for a Mars landing. Roger, Houston.
On the plus side, this does really give us a quick- glance-view of how many days are left until the due date - though as we're frequently reminded, that has little bearing on when the actual big day lands.
We were also given a countdown book with day by day baby development trivia ("by today, your baby can already feel embarassed by his or her parents") and obscure quotes on babies/children that we read from each night. As if to confirm the wide possible actual delivery dates, it also includes a countup of additional weeks after the due date with continuing tips in case you "go long". (Hm, unintentional football terminology seems even less appropriate here than usual.)
That's one of the tough things right now - we just don't know when things will happen, so all we can do is try to get ready as possible, then play the waiting game. Ah well, back to watching the counter I guess!

When Ziggy is born, you should set the timer for when s/he will be off to college.

I'm still in shock that someone actually left a comment. Wow. Thanks Adiv! :)

Yes, that was one potential option we'd discussed. Apparently another set of friends with a similar countdown timer were planning to switch it to the countdown to our current president's last day in office. To each their own I suppose. :)
